Project description:
The Department for Health Ecology and Environmental Protection of the Institute of Public Health, Zadar, in cooperation with partners from Podgorica and Banja Luka, designed a project called AllerShield, the goal of which is to establish and expand a network for monitoring concentrations of pollen allergens and preventing the further spread of allergenic plants and invasive alien species on project areas.
Three new measuring stations for monitoring pollen allergens and sensor monitoring of chemical parameters of air quality will be established in Zadar County. The duration of the implementation of the project is 36 months, and as part of it, a web application will be created that will provide citizens with timely information on concentrations of pollen allergens and air quality.
Project outcomes:
- Establishment and testing of a jointly developed tool – a platform for air quality monitoring that will be available to the general population
- Developed a joint action plan to prevent and reduce air pollution with pollen allergens
The implementation of this project will create a new innovative cross-border solution for air quality monitoring. The new monitoring platform will be available online to the general public and all interested stakeholders such as local public authorities, interest groups, NGOs, hospitals and medical centers.
The AllerShieled project will contribute to the improvement of the health of the local population and the need to unify EU legislation on air quality, which should include biological particles (allergenic pollen grains and spores) in EU regulations.
